History:
In 1999 St. Andrew’s member Lissa Taylor proposed to the Vestry that a committee be organized to raise and distribute funds to our local Lakeside Charities and individuals in need. Our first event was the 1999 Regalorama Navidad/Christmas Bazaar. The $39,664 pesos were distributed to seven charities. Donna Carnell expertly managed this committee and its events from 2000 to 2003. Betty Prentki took over as Outreach Chair in 2003. Betty efforts were recognized by the entire Lakeside community and she was honored as “Woman of the Year” in 2006! Jona Steed took over in 2007 to be replaced by Don Snell for 2007/2008 (the first male chair of Outreach).
Current:
Outreach accepts all donations whether large or small. The committee asks that all donated items be clean. Also, if you are donating electronic or mechanical items; be sure and label the item if it does not work and what is wrong (if known). These items will then be sold for parts. Items can be donated year-round.
Each year the Outreach Committee decides their priorities for fund distribution. It is generally decided that education is the top priority, because it is the best deterrent to future poverty. This is followed by Health and last, but not least, other Charitable causes. Our funds are distributed accordingly. All Registered Charities must submit financial records and unregistered charities must submit a Grant application and available financial information. Once the financial information has been reviewed, the Charity’s representatives are interviewed.
Outreach thanks our local restaurants, artists, and businesses who generously donate to these events. Also, thanks to all the volunteers who work to make these events so successful and fun.
· You can start bringing items to the church Monday to Friday from 09:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
· Please think about volunteering for the Regalorama. If you would like to be a part of this tremendous community support team, please contact Don Snell at 765-4085 or snell77@hotmail.com. In particular, we are looking for one or two people to chair the event.
· We are also looking for storage space. If you have a garage, bodega or casita that we can use over the next few months, your donation of space would be greatly appreciated.
